Wayne Collins - One Fighting Irishman
Please join us on Saturday, 2/22/2025, 2:00-4:00 pm, in the Kaikan for a special FREE screening of One Fighting Irishman (waynecollinsfilm.com). This is a 30-minute documentary on attorney Wayne M. Collins, who defended Japanese Americans during WWII and restored U.S. Citizenship for over 5,500 individuals coerced into renouncing it at Tule Lake Segregation Center.
As one of only a handful of attorneys who fought on behalf of the rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry while working with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California, Collins also battled the national ACLU and the national Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) in representing Fred Korematsu, one of only a handful of people who refused to report for mass detention. After the war, he also represented Iva Toguri falsely accused of broadcasting as “Tokyo Rose.”
Directed by Sharon Yamato and Evan Kodani, the film is narrated by George Takei. There will be a panel discussion following the screening.

MLK Walk for the Dream…Join Our Team!
Come on out! For the second year in a row, the temple will participate in the MLK Walk For The Dream. This 4-mile walk takes place on Monday, January 20, starting at Sacramento City College. Please arrive by 8 AM so we can get our team organized. The program starts at 8:30 with the march departing at 9:15.
We will meet in the Sac City College parking lot (between the college and Hughes Stadium). Look for our Buddhist Church of Sacramento banner.
In addition, please bring a happi coat if you have one. We will be wearing the happi over our warm jackets as we walk together.
Feel free to share this invitation with your family and friends. Last year, dozens of folks from the temple joined the thousands who participated. It's a free event, there's no registration or sign-ups needed.
