Betsuin 529 College Savings Program Continues for the New School Year
ABA is happy to announce that the Betsuin 529 College Savings Program will be continued in the 2024/2025 School Year. The matching contribution continues to be $125 in Celebration of the Betsuin’s 125th Year Anniversary. When considering “How to Pay for College,” parents’ current income cover about 22% and College Savings Plans cover about 9%. College Savings, scholarships and grants are the best way to pay for college. Unfortunately, about 10% of college funding requires reliance on student loans. This should be the last resort. Student loans accrue interest, have long repayment periods, and can put families into financial hardship. A recent study from the OneWisconsin Institute finds that it takes graduates of Wisconsin universities 19.7 years to pay off a bachelors degree loan and 23 years to pay off a graduate degree loan.
Knowing the large expense of continuing education, Betsuin 529 College Savings Program is offered not so much to cover cost but to raise awareness on this challenge facing college, continuing education, and vocational training students. If families wonder how much they should be saving, we recommend starting with a $100 per month contribution if you can afford it.
Here is the link to a video explaining how much to save. Note the importance of saving as soon as possible so that the savings can grow.
Information about the matching contribution is available here or by contacting any ABA Member. If you leave your contact information with the Church Office, an ABA Representative will contact you.
